My research is focused on understanding the molecular characteristics of the worker caste of fire ants (Solenopsis invicta). I am currently investigating the titer and function of vitellogenins found within the subcastes of worker ants. I am also investigating the differential transcriptome levels in the brains of foraging workers in hopes of relating gene expression to their specific task. The fire ant is a major economical, agricultural and medical pest, and my research contribution aims to help develop an efficient pest control strategy.
